Yellow Short Film Oscar Nomination
Donation protected
Hello and Happy New Year!
My name is Dina Mousawi, I am the Producer on the short film Yellow which has been shortlisted for an Oscar this year for Best Live Action Short and longlisted for a BAFTA for Best British Short Film.
You can watch Yellow here
Written and directed by British/Afghan film maker Elham Ehsas, the film takes place in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan, where a young woman walks into a store to buy her first Chadari, a full body veil, from a Talib shopkeeper.
We felt compelled to make this film as a response to the Taliban’s take over of Afghanistan two years ago and the fact that Afghan women and girls are no longer allowed an education, or to work, or to walk the streets alone without a male ‘guardian’. They must also wear a Chadari at all times in public.
The women in Afghanistan feel they are becoming more and more invisible to the western world and we hope Yellow will bring attention to their plight and silent suffering.
The film has played at over 40 festivals around the world and won several awards along the way. We feel so proud that Yellow made the shortlist for the 96th Academy Awards completely on its own merit, however as a small low budget film, we now need financial support in the run up to the nomination announcements.
If you believe in the power of film, and that art can be a tool to make change, please support us by donating whatever you can, no amount is too small.
We are truly grateful. Thank you.
