Yellow Archangel

Donation protected
We are raising funds to tour and develop an existing exhibition of expanded painting that will be documented in the form of an illustrated publication.

Yellow Archangel: An Exhibition of Rhizomic Painting began as the brainchild of artist and curator, Paul Bramley, and his desire to bring together a group of expanded painters - experimental artists whose work does not exist within the traditional boundaries of painting - for an exhibition at Ocean's Apart Gallery in Manchester, 2020. The show was eclectic in nature. It adopted the metaphor of the rhizome plant, which stems underground horizontally firing out networks of lateral shoots at intervals. Yellow Archangel focused upon a collection of work that synthesized painting with a whole variety of other artistic disciplines, exploring new trajectories and connections.

Having successfully exhibited in Manchester, we would like to exhibit the show at a number of other galleries and to expand upon the number of artists taking part.  The subsequent shows will take on different iterations, specifically providing support and network opportunities for a group of expanded painters who rarely have the chance to show work as an international collective. The campaign will facilitate the touring of the show and fund an illustrated publication.  For those donating, this publication will be gifted as a thank you.

In the first exhibition, the following artists took part: Shane Bradford, Paul Bramley, John Bunker, Liz Elton, Jack Ginno, Laurence Grave, Jacqui Hallum, Helen Hayward, Clare Holdstock, Allyson Keehan, Jo McGonigal, Adrian Wald and Sarah Kate Wilson.  The second exhibition will take place on the 5th March 2021 at General Practice in Lincoln, UK, and will consist of a larger number of artists each contributing one work each. The funds are needed in the months before March for the preparation of the show. Any extra funds will go into developing the subsequent iterations of the Yellow Archangel journey.

Expanded painting is a great passion of the curatorial team due to its sociological significance and its potential as one of the most modern and exciting contemporary art forms.  The series of exhibitions will provide viewers with a sophisticated and stunning body of work that is vastly eclectic yet fundamentally connected. In order to tour the show in the form that we want to and produce the publication, we require funding and we will be immensely grateful for any donations given.
