thank you for visiting my GoFundMe page! As you may be aware, I have been practicing as a physician assistant since 2009. During this time, I have almost exclusively practiced in emergency departments in inner-city Cleveland. One of the reasons I continue to work in this setting is the people. I believe it is an honor to serve those who are less fortunate. And, honestly, they are some of the most appreciative people I have met.
While I have had an opportunity to serve the poor in our community, I have felt a calling to continue to serve those who have even less. An opportunity has come up for a medical mission trip in rural Honduras, in Central America in December this year. In the rural regions of Honduras, over 65% of the people are below the poverty line. Each of these communities rely on support from medical missions, which come every 3 to 4 months for hundreds of people.
One of the best parts of this medical mission is that I will get to do this alongside over 10 of my current and graduated PA students. We will have an opportunity to work together in providing medical, dental, vision care as well as work on a water sanitation project for those in great need.
The mission trip will be facilitated through Global Brigades. Global Brigades is an organization dedicated to medical relief in Honduras since 2004. While they still provide connections for healthcare leaders to provide services, it has an overarching goal to empower communities through economic development, sustainable healthcare and water and sanitation projects.
I have set up this GoFundMe page to ask for your support in making this mission a reality. I am financially responsible for $1,980 to cover the cost of my donation to Global Brigades, which covers airfare, insurance, medical supplies, medicine, translators, lodging, security, meals and transportation. Support of any amount helps and is very appreciated. For more information, visit https://www.globalbrigades.org
