FATHER DETAINED WHILE DROPPING KIDS OFF AT SCHOOL

On Tuesday, November 5th, Hugo Hernandez, a father of 4, was detained by immigration as he drove his children to school in Fresno, California. Sandra, 15, and Eduardo, 16, were both terrified, as they had to witness their father being tormented by immigration. They bravely advocated for their father, asserting their rights to both their dad and the ICE agents. Yet, the officers dismissed them, as they tried to intimidate the daughter to stop recording, and forced the dad out of the vehicle.

Hugo and his family have called Fresno their home for over a decade, as he has been an integral part of our agricultural workforce. Hugo and his wife have four kids: 16, 15, 11, and a 2 year old, who also has chronic health conditions. The family is devastated right now. They recall the first time they had dinner without him, not knowing what to do with the empty void they felt in their home, as he was the one who asked the children how their day went, and lovingly joked with them.
We are asking our Central Valley community to help them feel the solidarity around them, as we rally to support them in this time of crisis! Thankfully, the New American Legal Clinic has taken on their case pro-bono. But there is still a lot that needs to be done to ensure Hugo is reunited with his wife and children! Hugo was the financial provider of the home. We are raising funds in anticipated of the bond hearing, and also hope to help the family with the everyday expenses, such as food, bills, and rent.
$9,000 is the initial goal:
$5,000 to save up for bond
$4,000 to help the family for two months' living expenses.
(Faith in the Valley (Valley Watch Network) has helped set this fundraiser up. Funds will be transferred directly to Hugo's wife, Guadalupe Jacinto. For any questions, email [email redacted])
