Help Kari get to Ghana!

Being a teacher in Des Moines Public Schools, and having students of a variety of backgrounds, has been an amazing experience for me! I have learned so much from the students in my classroom over the past three and a half years. I have seen students come to my classroom straight from another country, speaking no English at all. I have seen the challenges many of the children have faced in their short lives, such as: moving from caretaker to caretaker, having little to no food at home, and living without parents that are incarcerated. I have celebrated many successes with these students as well! I have learned from my students to be thankful for the little things in life.

I recently began classes to obtain my Masters in Education through Drake University. Through my graduate school program at Drake, I have been given an opportunity to take a ten day trip to Ghana, Africa, this summer with a professor and other graduate students. During this trip, we will visit several villages within the country of Ghana. At each of these villages, we will be able to see what daily life in the village is like,visit the students, teachers and schools, and interact with the children. This would be an incredible experience for me to observe, learn and grow as a teacher.

This is a trip of a lifetime, however, I cannot afford it without the help of my family and friends. The total cost of the trip is $2750 and all costs are out of pocket, as Drake does not assist with the cost. I would appreciate any amount you would be willing to donate, to help me take this trip and impact the children in Ghana.
