Lisa Vasquez (age 26) is the Staten Island based single mother of Jazmiah (age 9) and Jasiel (age 5). Lisa is a student at CUNY actively working to better herself and the lives of her children. Jazmiah is an able-minded, able-bodied, disabled child with autism and anxiety. The New York Public Education System has failed her as they have failed so many children. It has been 2.5 years since Jazmiah has set foot in a classroom because City Education Officials have yet to see through their promise that Jazmiah finds the right school for her. Lisa spends her days trying to juggle educating her children with financially providing for them. Jazmiah cannot spell her name. We ask that you donate whatever you can, ask yourself what you can do to help in any way, and follow Lisa on instagram @_questforjustice to keep up with this cause as it develops. To again quote Lisa Vasquez: "I need rent money. Money for an Attorney, money for Special Education Services, etc, etc...thank you."
Racism runs rampant in Staten Island (as it pervades everywhere); and it has found its way into the school system.Though lack of educational-equity also affects white children, it is no coincidence that Jazmiah is not a white child and has been unheard by her government officials. They use her for photo-ops, yet they take no action when called by her mother; because minorities (however the majority of those discriminated against and the majority of those in many districts white officials represent) are perceived as less-than by their white officials elected to serve them.
If you support Black Lives Matter, you will support Jazmiah. If you consider yourself a compassionate individual, you will support Jazmiah.
