Yasu battles pancreatic cancer
A word from Yasu's sister Suki:
On July 7th, 2017, I received a call from my brother, Yasuharu, who told me that doctors had found a 6x10” tumor in his pancreas and other tumors spreading to his liver. The biopsy revealed that he has Stage IV pancreatic cancer and was given 6 months to live. My brother will turn 31 in October.
To say this came as a shock is an understatement. Just last year, our mother had a hemorrhagic stroke and almost passed away. My eldest sister and I both quit our jobs and moved to Kentucky to assist our parents. While my sister works at the family store on behalf of my mother, I take care of my mother full-time. My brother and my second sister have since sent the majority of their life savings to help pay for her medical expenses. Now we are faced with a whole new set of medical expenses and limited options to help.
My brother currently lives in Texas while my second sister lives in our hometown of Columbus, Ohio. With my mother’s current needs and expenses, visiting Texas is not easy for us even in his great time of need. After hearing this terrifying and unimaginable news, the last thing I want my brother to be concerned with is money. Although he was planning on keeping his diagnosis a secret, he has decided to become public about his cancer after hearing his prognosis.
My brother is not the type to ask for favors or help. He has done so much for our family, especially our mother during this past year, but now he needs support from friends, family and the kindness of strangers. All of your donations will go toward his medical treatment and travel expenses.
As some of you may know, the survival rate for pancreatic cancer is grim…but even after hearing his prognosis, he assured me that he plans to beat this. Knowing how hard my mother fought against her recent near-death experience, I know first-hand how hard my family can and will fight. Please help Yasu beat this. 2017年7月7日、兄の康晴(やすはる)から電話を受け、医者から６x10cmの大きさの腫瘍が膵臓に見つかり、肝臓にも転移していると言われたと聞かされました。腫瘍生検ではステージIVの膵臓癌で余命６ヶ月という結果でした。兄は10月に31才になります。
この知らせに、私たちは単にショックだったという程度の気持ちではありませんでした。なぜならつい昨年、私達の母は出血性脳卒中で倒れ、亡くなる寸前のところまでいったのです。
長女と私は、両親を助けるためにそれぞれ仕事を辞め、現在両親のいるケンタッキー州へ引っ越しました。姉が母の代わりに両親の経営する日本食品店で働き、その間私は母の介護をしています。母が倒れて以来、兄と次女は母の医療費を支払うため、殆んどの貯金を母に送りました。そして今、また新しい医療費問題に直面し、私たちが持つ支払い方法は限られています。
兄は現在テキサス州に住んでおり、次女は地元のオハイオ州コロンバス市に住んでいます。母の現在の状態や費用を考えると、兄にとってこれほど困難な時でも、兄のいるテキサスまで会いに行くことさえとても難しいのです。
私たちがこの恐ろしい、想像しがたい知らせを受け、兄に一番心配して欲しくないと思うのは、お金のことです。元々は兄は病気のことを秘密にしておくつもりだったそうですが、予後を聞き、癌のことを家族に話してくれました。
兄は人に頼ったり、助けを求めたりしない人間です。家族のために、特に母のために、たくさんしてくれました。しかし今回は、友達や、私たち家族、そして他の人の支援を必要としています。全ての寄付は兄の医療費や病院への交通費にあてさせていただきます。
ご存知の方もいらっしゃると思いますが、膵臓癌の生存率はあまり高くはありません。それでも予後を聞いた後、兄は私に、癌を克服すると断言しました。母が生きるために命懸けで戦った姿を目の当たりにした今、私も、自分の家族はどれだけ出来るか、戦えるかに、十分な自信があります。兄、康晴の戦いに、どうか手を貸してください。全ての寄付、思い、祈りは、兄の膵臓癌との戦いの支えになります。
