Help for apartment fire

On December 3rd at around 9 am, our family was awakened to a police officer pounding at the door telling us that the apartment behind us (share the same wall) was up in flames. The police officer told us we needed to vacate immediately. When I got upstairs from the basement, I could smell the smoke coming into our apartment. Eva gathered the animals, Jon grabbed coats for us, while I got shoes that were available. I didn't have time to grab shoes for Eva, in the rush, but saw Eva's friend's shoes and grabbed them for her. Once we were outside of the apartment I could see smoke spewing out of the roof of our apartment. The police officer asked us about another neighbor who lived farther down the complex, because there was no answer. I told him I didn't know anyone because we just moved in. Then after remembering I had saw an older lady with her grandson one evening, I told the officer there may be a child and his grandmother that lived in the unit. The officer proceeded to knock and had firefighter check the residence. Thankfully, the woman and her grandson were not home. We then stood on the side walk, as we watched the entire building going up in smoke.

Eva, Jon, Chris, and I just recently moved into the apartment on November 15th, 2017and were still in the process of moving a few odds and ends that are at our old apartment. Since we were in transitions between places we didn't transfer our renters insurance over yet. We are hopefully going to be covered, but we are not sure yet.

Our apartment has water, smoke, and fire damage. We are currently unsure what is salvageable due to building being uninhabitable. But we were told to expect a complete loss. We will know more once the investigation has been completed.
