Aiko's Hip Correction Surgery
Donation protected

We adopted Aiko from the Almost Home Foundation in March of 2015. Ever since we got him we had noticed that something was not right with his hind legs from the way he walked. We assumed that since he was growing so quickly it might just be growing pains. It didn't take long for us to realize that something was seriously wrong with him, so we took him to a local vet where we had taken our other dog in the past. The vet took X-Rays, ran some tests, but he diagnosed Aiko with "a potential inflamed tendon or ligament". We trusted the vet and took his word for it. However, as a couple weeks passed our instincts kept telling us that something was wrong with this diagnosis. We drove our dog over an hour to the vet we went to before we moved, and he diagnosed Aiko with hip dysplasia right away.
We have until he is10 months old to get the surgery completed because that's when we will have the most success and the surgery will heal the most effectively. He needs to have a triple pelvic osteotomy on both hips. In laymens terms, he needs to have each hip broken in 3 places and then put back together in a better formation with pins and staples. This needs to be done within the next 30 days so we need some help covering the costs.
He is the most lovable dog, loves all people and other dogs, and has quickly become my other dog's best friend. We feel so bad for him and are so sad that he was born with this unfortunate problem. We can't wait to get him fixed so he can heal and start playing as much as he would like!
We cannot thank you enough for taking the time to read about us and are grateful for any assistance you can provide.
