Austin Wegmann is 11 years old. At 4 years old he woke up one morning with significant eye pressure in his left eye. After several events and 5 transplants he is now blind in both eyes. He was diagnosed with Keratoglubus at age 4. At age 8 he was also diagnosed with EDS type 6. Most recently after a visit to a neurologist for blackouts, dizziness and headaches it was discovered that he has at some point had a stroke. Despite all of the above he remains an optomistic, energetic full of life little boy. He is currently enrolled in a regular academic class at South Effingham Elementary where he has earned High Honor Roll every 9 weeks since starting school. We are attempting to raise the funds to purchase a Note Taker with a refreshable Braille display prior to his entering Middle School next year. This device will allow him to maintain and keep up with the other students in his class, will allow the teachers the ability to view his assignments/work while in progress and will prepare him for his future. This device comes highly recommended by the NFB and his current therapist. The device is manufactured by HIMS, Inc located in Texas and has a starting price of $6k.
