Dad's Medical Expenses

I have started this fundraiser for my dad, who is having severe neurological issues. In 1999, he suffered a broken neck and spent a long time in the hospital following several surgeries and complications.  One of the surgeries resulted in not only having plates and screws placed in the front of the neck vertebrae but also straps on the backside. Those straps should have been removed but the doctor did not want to. Fast forward to just over a month ago. Dad was working and suddenly felt some intense nerve pain down his left shoulder and arm. After having an MRI and seeing two of the best doctors in our area, it has been determined that there are bulging disks under the straps. These straps are causing the disks to bulge inwards to the spinal cord, effectively causing nerve damage. The situation is such that if left untreated he will become paralyzed. So he needs to go to the University of Utah to have a neurological surgeon see him. Dad has not worked for a month now and does not qualify for unemployment. Mom has some work coming in but it is just covering the daily and monthly expenses. They live about 4 hours from the university so mom will need to stay close.
