Mason Strong

This sweet child’s name is Mason and he is my nephew. He has two big sisters (Arianna who is 8 and Aubrey who is 4)that love him dearly. He was born with CHD (congenital heart disease), and has spent a vast majority of his first year in and out of the hospital. His mom (my sister) quit her job to take care of him and be a stay at home mom, while her husband serves in the Virginia National Guard.

The hope was that once strong enough, Mason would go through a double switch surgery, however his heart isn’t strong enough. With this option being off the table, transplant was the only viable option. While we knew that one day this would be his reality, this week it has become even more real.

After undergoing a G- tube surgery, Mason’s body isn’t healing as it should. On Friday, he went to UVA and it was determined that due to his condition he would need to be admitted which bumped up his transplant status to a 1A. Unexpectedly this week he was admitted to UVA hospital and placed in a 1A status for a heart transplant, and will remain in the hospital indefinitely until a new heart is found for him.

Because of this admission and unknown amount of time he will be in the hospital, I am asking for donations to help out with some expenses. The travel time from their home to UVA is a 2 hour round trip. So the money would go to the expenses associated with that. Also, to ensure Mason is not alone at the hospital, his mom will be staying there and his sister Aubrey will go to day care while their dad is at work.

My sister and brother in law have done a phenomenal job of balancing everything thus far, especially with most of their family not being in the same town. However sometimes even the strongest need a little help, so if you can find it in your heart to donate it would mean the world to everyone who loves Mason. #masonstrong
