Renowned Chicago blues guitarist and singer Chris James lost his mother, Sandy Del Villar, unexpectedly on Sunday, August 12th.
Admitted into the hospital for the treatment of MRSA, Sandy’s condition inexplicably worsened over the last week and she was rushed to ICU early Saturday. The head ICU doctor determined that she had not been given the proper care over her previous five days in the hospital, and that her condition was critical. ICU doctors were able to stabilize her to the point that they sent friends and family home Saturday night, confident that she was improving. But by 1:30 a.m., Sandy was in cardiac arrest and doctors alerted Chris that she would not make it through the night. She died at 3:02 a.m..
Sandy lived with her son Chris James, a 38-year professional blues musician, who had moved back home from Chicago to serve as her primary caregiver. Sandy and Chris shared a home, and with their combined income were just able to cover the monthly mortgage and living expenses. As a professional musician, Chris has learned to live with the unexpected swings in income through the years. But with Sandy’s passing, Chris now finds himself facing substantial medical and funeral costs, and the loss of her income puts him in jeopardy of losing his home.
Chris James is the kind of individual who would do anything he could to help a friend in need, but is reluctant to ask for help even when he most needs it. As his friends, we are deeply saddened by Sandy's sudden death and decided that we had to orchestrate this GoFundMe to help support Chris through this incredibly difficult time. Our hope is to raise enough money to put a dent in the medical bills, funeral expenses, and house payments until Chris can get back on his feet.
