My wife Chris and I mentor 2 boys ages 10 and 12 through a program called Amachi. Their caregiver is their great grandmother. Most of the fun things that we have done in the last 2.5 years have been the first time they have done them.
We have camped, fished, kayaked, hiked, cut wood, gone to TN football games, built a bike ramp, gone tubing, swam in the lake and made smores.
Recently we found out that they have bed bugs and this has really started affecting our outings.
I have been told by experts in the pest control business not to let them in my car or go inside the house. This means that until these are exterminated our fun is limited to doing things outside at their house. And we can do that; the issue is that is what they normally do.
Our plan is to provide new opportunities for them to experience and to be in a position to mentor them while participating in new activities. The extermination process is quite expensive and the best treatment is heat. This starts at $1400 and goes up from there.
The first 18 months we were involved in their lives, they did not even have a car. All extra money they have goes toward essentials and they barely have the essentials.
Please consider helping us raise the needed money to exterminate these pests so we can get back to doing the fun activities we have planned.
