Diabetic Alert Dog for Jaxon

Jaxon has been a type 1 diabetic for most of his life. He was diagnosed when he was 7, he is now 15 and in his first year of High School. Since that fatefull day 8 years ago I've been on a constant mission to keep his life as normal as possible all while keeping him as healthy as possible. Unfortunatley, diabetes has other plans. Jaxon's numbers are very hard to track, the same treatment for the same food one day will cause a low blood sugar and the next day will cause a high blood sugar. Jaxon has also had dangerous lows during the night. This is one of the most dangerous times for a diabetic, because they are asleep and can't detect a high or low to properly treat it. So most nights I wake up around 2am to check his numbers. Even with a sensor, and covering for everything his numbers will still keep us guessing. That is where a Diabetic Alert Dog (DAD) would come in. These dogs can detect any change in blood sugar, they are trained to let Jaxon or myself know when he is having a high or low so we can treat it. These dogs are often able to detect things before the sensor does, they've also been known to do it from distances. These dogs save the lives of diabetic kids every day! But we need help to afford to purchase the dog and the training that it requires. There are 2 routes to getting a DAD, you buy the dog already certified and trained or you get a potential dog and train it yourself with local classes and resources (both cost). As of right now the already trained dog is WAY out of our reach financially, but we are hoping with this GoFundMe page we can afford to get him a dog that we can train to be a DAD.
