As we attempt to process the devastating and unexpected loss of our father from COVID, we are faced with some really difficult decisions in regards to handling his affairs. It was not a secret that our dad’s home needs some serious TLC but it was not until we saw actual numbers that we realized the situation we are left with.

Our dad’s life insurance policy will cover his cremation and some bills but will leave us with little extra to make his home marketable to sell. There is still a mortgage and the amount of work needed will not allow us to list the house for the price we’d need to break even. At the bare minimum, we need a new roof and my dad was quoted roughly $10,000 a couple of years ago.

It is incredibly hard to ask for help. We absolutely would give anything not to be in this situation but we are trying to handle our parents’ estate while also grieving this immeasurable loss. Allowing us to sell our childhood home with dignity will give us closure we could never have by just letting the house go. If you are able and willing to help us, we would be forever grateful. We know how hard times are for everyone right now and appreciate any support.
