Yeshuah O’Brien-Bayer, a member of Derg AC has overcome many a feat and challenge on the
athletics track where he has won Munster and National titles. He is now determined to take on the
gruesome challenge of climbing Ireland’s highest mountain 8 times in 7 days, finishing off with a final
climb of his native Moylussa in Killaloe Co Clare , the combination of these challenges will equal the
height of the world’s highest mountain, Mount Everest.
Yeshuah’s dedication and drive is to raise as much money as he possibly can for three causes close to
his heart, those being : the development of a tartan training track for his native club Derg AC, the
Mater foundation and finally a fellow athlete, Shaun Himli, from neighbouring athletics club
Nenagh Olympic AC who is battling Ewing Sarcoma.
Yeshuah’s father Hergen will accompany him on this challenge starting August the 2nd at 8:30am from Cronin’s Yard Campsite at the base of Carrauntoohill in Co. Kerry. They will be commencing at the same time for 5 days consecutively, culminating with a double climb on Saturday 8th August.
The first climb on that day will commence at 3am so as to arrive on the summit for sunrise at 6am and
the last climb of the day at 10.30am. To make up the shortfall in height between Carrauntoohill x 8
and Everest, they will complete the remaining distance in a homecoming climb on Sunday 9th at
11am from the Two Mile Gate Car Park to the summit of Moylussa. They welcome the support of
anyone who would like to join them on any of the climbs.
