My pal Al's cancer costs too much!!

Hi, my name is Keith, however most people know me as Fingers from afternoon drive DJ on WBAB-FM. I will attempt to explain as concisely as possible while keeping my emotions at bay. I have a very blessed life and I am truly grateful to have the job I wanted as a child. Feeding your children from your passion is a wonderful thing. I'm lucky to be doing this for the past 34 years and have come to learn that when I shine the brightest is when I can cast the most light. Don't get me wrong I have the same challenges many of us do but this is not about me. This is about my friend Al. Al is the kind of guy who would give you the shirt off his back to help you. Al has colon cancer and has been battling it a couple years now. The treatment costs are astronomical as you probably know.

After a brief remission the cancer returned and now is attacking his liver. In the beginning he lost his job due to the treatment regimen. So of course he lost his insurance as well. Being the kind of guy Al is, he simply put his effort into side work. (He is a brilliant designer, fabricator of almost anything metal including engines, cars and bikes)

Between the progression and the meds he takes his body is taking a beating. So much so that he finally has succumbed to the fact he cannot work consistently anymore even at home. His lovely wife, of 38 years, Cathy stands all day with her poor knees cutting hair. It’s not enough to pay the insurance (2 grand a month) let alone the bills. His social security & disability barley helps to bolster her income. I am starting this fund raiser simply to relieve financial stress on the two of them and in turn hopefully increase quality of life during his battle.

I host two charity motorcycle runs (one for children with cancer one for breast cancer) a year and participate in countless other fundraisers almost always for people I have never met. This man we call Al is my friend, who I met through Ski my best buddy who succumbed to his cancer a few years back, and if we don’t advocate for our friends then what are we doing here? Al’s cancer apparently has no intention of playing nice so we need action now! The funds will go to paying the insurance and co-pays as well as assist in the cost of living. I have not told Al or Cathy I am doing this because I’m sure his pride would poo-poo it. Look I’m just a regular guy with a cool job and a silly name but with your help I believe we can make a difference in the lives of Al and Cathy. The faster we get this done the faster we can relieve the pressure. Could I please get some support for Al and Cathy’s plight?
