Gabriel battles leukemia

Two days after Christmas, our youngest son, Gabriel, was suddenly diagnosed with leukemia. A late night call from the family doctor with abnormal blood test results sent Gabe straight to the E.R., and doctors there confirmed the worst. The news was shocking, terrifying, and completely unexpected. Gabriel is 23 and appeared outwardly to be in good health.

Blood panels and biopsies confirmed his diagnosis of Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML). After a roller coaster of a week, we are grateful for a positive prognosis. Advancements in recent years for the treatment of CML are encouraging and we are hopeful Gabriel’s treatment will be less invasive as a result.

However, as with all cancer, the medical bills are already piling up, due to the expense of diagnostic tests and medications. We believe his monthly cost of medication will include a $1,500 copay- medication which he will need to take for the rest of his life.    Anything you can contribute is so appreciated, so that we can offset as much of this burden as possible.   We are hopeful he will be able to get back to work,  but need to be prepared if not.
