Feeding Protestors at the March on Washington

Donation protected
Our goal for the March on Washington weekend is to feed 10,000 protestors. With your donations, we will be able to do so by partnering with local Black and POC restaurants in DC to pay them to make the meals and to support them as they recover from the recent months of restaurant closures. The organizers of this GoFundMe are Allegra Tomassa Massaro and Roodharvens Joseph, two of the co-founders of Fuel the People, a grassroots organization based in DC and NYC.

Guided by the belief that food is the fuel for the revolution, Fuel the People (https://www.fuelthepeople.com/ ) nourishes and supports protestors on the front lines in DC and NYC by providing meals from local Black and POC-owned restaurants, chefs and businesses. To us, fueling the people also means fueling our communities. We bring meals from these restaurants to protestors to help sustain them so that they may keep fighting for freedom and justice for us all.

In our first two months, Fuel the People has:
-Fed over 16,000 protestors
-Fueled over $25,000 into our local communities through partnerships with local Black and POC restaurants, chefs and businesses
-Provided over 600 protestors with necessary safety equipment and first aid kits

“We are tired. We are tired of being beaten by policemen. We are tired of seeing our people locked up in jail over and over again. And then you holler, ‘Be patient.’ How long can we be patient? We want our freedom and we want it now.” On August 28th, 1953, John Lewis stood up in front of the nation at the original March on Washington to demand justice. 57 years later, we will stand together at the upcoming March on Washington to continue his fight for freedom.

As many travel far and risk their lives to attend the March on Washington weekend and address injustice, please help Fuel the People feed the people who are the heartbeat of this movement so that they may keep going.

Donations go from you -> us -> local Black and POC-owned restaurants -> meals for protestors. We use funds to partner with Black & POC restaurants and chefs to make meals for protestors and buy any necessary supplies (tables, hand sanitizer, masks, gloves, etc.) for distribution. We then distribute the meals to protestors with our amazing team of volunteers! Any leftover funds will be used to support future protests with Fuel the People over the next few weeks.

We cannot thank you enough for your donation; every bit truly helps! We are excited to welcome you to the Fuel the People Community. Together, let's do this!
