Help victims of domestic and sexual assault

In August, in response to a reported sexual assault at the Fiji house at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, hundreds of students joined in a week of protests aimed at bringing attention to the epidemic of sexual assault in the United States in general, and specifically on college campuses. As a part of this effort, organizers raised almost $11,000 to be donated to Voices of Hope, a nonprofit in Lincoln dedicated to helping people who have experienced domestic or sexual violence.

According to an article in the Lincoln Journal Star, before this group had the chance to give the money to the charity, they were defrauded of it by someone pretending to be from the organization and who had them wire it into their own bank account. An investigation is underway, but in the meantime Voices of Hope doesn’t have this donation that could make a huge difference for them, and the advocacy work that the University students have done has been stolen from them.
