Help Russell Heal

On April 7, 2018, Russ excitedly bought himself the new bike he’s been saving for. The next day - a beautiful sunny spring day - he was riding that brand new bike with a good friend when he was hit by a pick-up truck at an intersection. No one know whose fault it was and, for purposes of this page, we don’t care. What we do care about is that this spirited 11-year boy is now in the ICU at a Philadelphia hospital. He has a long road of recovery ahead of him. Russ was thrown from the bike and suffered a brain injury, two breaks in his leg, and a broken jaw. He’s sedated, on a ventilator, feeding tube and catheter.
Broken bones aside, the prognosis is not yet known. We pray every day that his brain will recover. Even with modern medicine and state of the art testing equipment, no one knows how, when or if his brain will heal. He’s getting daily scans to monitor his condition.
His entire family including a 15-year old sister are devastated very, very worried. His mother, father and step-mom have been constantly by his side barely sleeping or eating. They are not working and do not have paid FMLA. They do not know how long Russ will need to be in hospital or, when he leaves, if he’ll be going to a rehab center or home with a health aid. By the grace of God, they do have medical insurance but don’t know the full extent of what will need to be covered. While family is helping out financially as much as we can, we know it won’t be enough.
Please help support Russel’s medical expenses and the parents’ expenses while they are staying strong for him at the hospital. My name is Holly Sullivan. Young Russell Caterinicchio is my daughter Madeline Caterinicchio’s step son. His father is also Russell Caterinicchio. (But don’t call little Russ - Russie JR.! He hates it!) His mother is Jaclyn Guthrie. All donations to this fund will be used to cover medical and living expenses until his parents can go back to work.e
And, bless the PICU nurses at CHOP who are as Maddie calls them… SUPERHEROES.
Updates on Russ’s condition will be sent as we know them.
