Support for Baby Ethan
Donation protected
After 39 weeks and about 2 1/2 days of active labor, we welcomed our beautiful baby boy, Ethan, into the world at 7lbs. 14.4oz and 19in. He has been a fighter since the beginning, meeting milestones early, k
eeping us on our toes and taking everything in stride for such a little guy - constantly smiling. He is the light of our lives, our everything.
Around 4-5 months we noticed that Ethan's head had a slightly different shape and at a doctor's appointment we were told that his soft spot was a little difficult to locate - we were referred to a pediatric neurosurgeon for further inspection. At this appointment it was confirmed that our sweet boy had Craniosynostosis- a condition that occurs 1 in every 1500-2000 births and causes the bones of babies skulls to fuse early (for reasons unknown). In most cases, as with our son, surgery is required to correct the issue - to "normalize" and reshape the skull to allow for optimal brain development as well as a long list of other essential functions that if left uncorrected could severely impair a child and even prove fatal. Our hearts sank at the news. As a new doting parent we want the best for our little boy and although the thought of such an extreme surgery is terrifying, the thought of not pursuing it and leaving his health to chance, is not an option.
On August 14, 2015 we went in for our presurgery instructions, had our boy's blood drawn for testing, and donated our blood to provide for his supply in surgery in hopes that either of us might prove a successful match. On the 27th at 9am we will check in for surgery and at 11am they will begin. At this time we are asking for supportive prayers, well wishes, healing energy and donations to support the surgery and recovery efforts for our sweet boy. He will be in the hospital 3-5 days and proceed to recover at home for the following weeks. Donations exceeding our goal or expenses will be donated to benefit other babies in need
