Gage Benjamin Peters is a sweet 2 year old boy who loves his family, Mickey Mouse, and riding his golf cart. On Tuesday, 8/7/18, he was lethargic and very sleepy- only staying awake for 1-2 minutes at a time. He was taken to his pediatricians office where he was referred to the ER at UPMC. He was immediately admitted and doctors began testing. Keli and Jason’s worst nightmare was when a cat scan confirmed he had a huge mass on his brain.
On Wednesday 8/8/18, Gage underwent brain surgery in hopes to remove the tumor. 8 hours and 3 blood transfusions later, the nightmare became a reality. Gage has brain cancer, and they were not able to remove the entire mass as it was so deep in his brain and removing from his brain stem was too dangerous. Pathology results could take up to 2 weeks, so we are still unsure of the type of brain cancer and how aggressive it is.
I have started this page to help raise money for Gage, Keli and Jason for the medical costs, insurance bills, and other expenses resulting from this tragedy. We have a long road ahead of us and we are trying to stay positive and optimistic for our little warrior.
At some point in our lives, all of us have been affected by cancer—either a personal battle or helping a loved one with the disease. Besides the physical and emotional tolls, fighting cancer can be an enormous financial burden.
