Rocky's Medical Bills

Hey friends, as many of you know, my best buddy (cat), Rocky, is currently undergoing treatment at the Companion Animal Hospital, part of the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph, ON. He is suffering from a severe liver infection (they think, as of writing), possibly brought on by an unknown bacteria (they're testing to determine), which has left him critically anemic, jaundiced, and very, very weak. He's received one blood transfusion (so far) to try and elevate his red blood cell count, an ultrasound to look for internal bleeding, tissue damage, and liver inflammation, and a gall bladder aspiration to obtain a bacterial culture to try and pinpoint the cause of the infection.
His immune system has gone into overdrive to fight the infection which has resulted in his white blood cells overgenerating and killing off the red, hence the anemia and jaundice. The problem is they need to suppress his immune system to allow the antibiotics to do their job, but because he's in such a weakened state, it will be a delicate balance to find. One medication countering another, kind of thing.
The bottom line is I'm willing to do anything to save my best little buddy in the world, but it's going to be very expensive. If you know me, you know I have a hard time asking for help. I'm a stubborn old asshole who would rather push the boulder up the hill forever than put somebody else out. But in this case, I think I'm going to have to swallow my pride... to a point.
The hospital has quoted $4000 for the treatments listed above, anything outside of that is going to mean additional charges, which I certainly don't have. So, I'm (reluctantly and hesitantly) reaching out to my friends to ask if they'd like to contribute to my l'il guy's recovery.
I've set my fundraising goal at $5000, without knowing where the medical bills are going to eventually land, but here is my plan:
I intend to pay for (at least) one half of Rocky's recovery from my own pocket (cough... credit card... double cough), and if the funds raised should exceed the balance, I will donate them to the college. Because they've been abso-fucking-lutely fantastic! Like, faith-restored-in-humanity fantastic. And THAT I wanna support.
And thanks to all of you for your support. Your kind words, and likes, and hearts, and sad faces, and all the other shit that you don't realize social media is good for until you really need it, have made a huge difference and are greatly appreciated. You have no idea. You are an amazing group of people and I'm privileged to call you friend.
