Taylor's Medical Trip to Uganda
Dear family and friends,
As many of you know, I started the School of Nursing at George Washington University this spring. During the past few months, I have become interested in global health. I am extremely excited to announce I've been chosen to represent my school in Uganda. For this trip, GWU is partnering with Omni Med to provide basic health screenings, health education, and health promotion to the residents of the Mukono District.
The area of focus for this trip includes screening for hypertension, maternal & child health, sanitation, and nutrition. In addition, we will have the opportunity to teach volunteer health workers basic health assessment skills.
One in four Ugandans live in poverty. The life expectancy is only 59 years old. There is minimum access to health care and a shortage of health care workers. Uganda's infant and mortality rate are among the highest in the world. I am thrilled to be able to help treat and educate these amazing people.
I'm writing to you in hopes of raising money to help pay for airfare, accommodations, transportation, and vaccinations. If it weren't for my family, friends, and community I would not have this opportunity. Any donation would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading this and for your generous support.
Love,
Taylor Marie
