From David's mother:

On September 30, David was spending the evening around a campfire and began not feeling well, he got up to go inside when he blacked out and fell into a fire pit where his face and neck were burned badly. David was rushed to the hospital by his girlfriend and friends who pulled him out of the fire, removed the coals from his face and acted within seconds which kept him from much more serious trauma. We are so thankful to them for their rapid response and care. David remains in the hospital and thankfully the damage is less than at first anticipated but he still has a long healing road ahead of him. The belief is that his blood pressure and blood sugar fell rapidly which caused his black out and his potassium level was quite low and this followed a viral illness the week or so prior. We are hopeful that he will be released later this week. However he will be unable to work for approx 3-4 weeks, (he is not allowed to leave the house in order to protect his burns from becoming infected). After visiting him and going home, our car broke down before it got me home. We are now borrowing a car to be able to get to the hospital and do what needs to do to help and support David. David will need daily bandage changes when he returns home and myself, his girlfriend and father will be managing his care which may mean some loss of work to do whatever we need to do in order to help him on his healing journey, which we are so thankful to be able to do for him. As you know severe burns and the healing process is very painful but he is determined to give himself the time he needs to recover from this.
David is a very responsible 23 year old with an incredible work ethic and drive. Missing work is creating tremendous stress along with the many medical bills that will come from his injuries. He is very upset and discouraged at not being able to get back to work for the clients he is renovating for. In the past year he has bought his own home, renovated that, purchased a new vehicle and started his own business doing home repair. In the midst of it all, he has worked his way up to being a very promising fighter and teaching others at UFAI aside from his regular work. All this weighs heavily on him as he goes into the healing process. This is a man who gives help to any who need it and is always willing to do whatever he can to help others. Now we are hoping to help him so he can rest and heal without as much stress and worry. We thank you in advance for whatever you may be able to donate.
