Hello, my name is Shemaiah and I have been a teacher for about 5 years. I begin my career at a low income, title one elementary school ,where I provided service to many students who came from difficult backgrounds and faced daily challenges. I have seen first hand how love and dedication can not only shape a child’s future but also impact mine. It is my innermost desire to travel to Africa to teach students English, how to read, and mathematics. I have spent the last year researching and becoming more aware of the challenges many individuals face in Africa. I have learned about many countries and have decided to specifically target the challenges faced in Nigeria. I have deliberated met individuals who live there to conduct first hand interviews in regards to what it is like there and how one is able to cope with the inescapable challenges. As a result of this, I am asking for support because I would like to travel to Nigeria for two weeks, teach students at a local school, and share the knowledge I have learned as a result of attending college in America and what I have learned throughout my teaching journey. The funds donated to this project will be used for lodging, meals, and necessary supplies for the trip. No matter how great or small, just like teaching, every gift will be measured in love. Thank you for your support.
