Dear friends and family,
We have started this page to help my dear father Omar with his recovery and expenses since his medical emergency back in December.
On December 13, 2016, Omar was sitting in the steam room at an apartment he was visiting and lost consciousness. He stayed in the steam room for a long time until he came about and due to the heat in the room, he suffered a stroke and severe third degree burns over 90% of his legs and feet. He spent a month in the hospital undergoing several skin graft operations and other necessary treatments. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond his control, the medical expenses incurred are not covered by any insurance.
Now, he has been released from the hospital to return home where he lives with his mother for a very lengthy recovery. He is also still undergoing weekly surgeries to clean his burns and redo his bandages. His surgeon feels that he has to perform these surgeries in the hospital under anesthesia to prevent another stroke or heart attack due to the intense pain of his burns and to control the bacteria in his legs. Currently, antibiotics to fend off serious internal infections are costing over $400 per day, and the family is paying for a nurse to spend ten hours per day on site, seven days a week. My grandmother is 85 years old and she needs assistance to take care of my dad who cannot walk or stand up on his own. This will be necessary for at least another few months.
So far, expenses for doctors, the hospital, medications, and other services and procedures amount to over $75,000, and several thousand more expected over the next few months. Omar had been on a medical disability and unable to work for an extended period, but had recently returned to work.
Although family members are paying for everything as they can, the total expenses are beyond our means. We are seeking donations of any amount to help pay off expenses already incurred, those we know will come up over the next several months, as well as any unexpected expenses that may arise due to complications during the recovery period.
We sincerely thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support in helping my dad return to good health. If you know Omar, you know the love and kindness in his heart as well as his tendency to suffer because of the sufferings of others. We truly appreciate any help we can get so he can continue to be a light in the lives of those around him.
