Xiaoying Wen's Funerals & Memorial

On the evening of November 16, 2017, Xiaoying Wen was cycling home from Arizona State University campus, when a pickup truck struck him at the intersection of Rural Road and Vista Del Cerro Drive. He was pronounced dead at 10:55pm at the hospital. What’s beyond our understanding was that Tempe police said the truck driver had the right of way during the crash. However, friends of Wen say the light at the intersection is timed so that the driver and Wen both had a green light when the crash happened. My parents and I could not accept the explanation from Tempe Police. But just even the truck driver had the right of way, he should have slowed down instead of driving at a fast speed and killing an innocent life. This is the precious life of my brother.
Xiaoying was from Chengdu, Sichuan. He got his bachelor’s degree from the renowned Sichuan Conservatory of Music. After graduation, he came to the States and pursued his master’s degree in music performance at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He worked so hard that he was awarded both the university scholarship and the Chinese government scholarship. After graduated in 2014, Xiaoying pursued his doctorate degree in piano performance at Arizona State University. His mentor, Dr. Baruch Meir, an associate professor of piano at ASU said Xiaoying was a very gifted and hardworking student. “He is the most hardworking pianist I’ve ever seen. He practices almost seven to eight hours every day. A family who sold their home to send him to America get a coffin back. It's not right. It hurts becuase our students are like children. ”
It’s beyond words to describe how painful it is for my family and I to go through this tragedy, especially being abroad. We are facing all sorts of difficulties like language barrier and dealing with legal matters. Your help is so wanted and will deeply appreciated.

警方称事故中卡车有优先行驶权。但文小影的同学告诉记者说，十字路口的灯是定时的，所以当事故发生时司机和文小影都处于绿灯的状态。这个说法让我和父母都难以接受。不过什么原因，司机都应该避让而不是直接撞上去！这是一条宝贵的生命啊！<br>文小影来自四川成都，在获得了四川音乐学院的学士学位后，又前往在密苏里大学哥伦比亚分校进修，获得了钢琴表演的音乐学硕士学位。期间他通过自己的努力，不仅获得学校奖学金也同时成为中国一位公派留学生。在2014年，文小影又赴亚利桑那州立大学攻读音乐艺术专业的博士学位(钢琴表演方向)。
文小影在亚利桑那州立大学的导师，钢琴副教授梅尔(Baruch Meir)表示，文小影是个很有天赋及勤奋上进的学生。“他是我见过的最刻苦的钢琴家，他每天几乎要练习七八个小时。
