Corrie Ten Boom once said, "If God sends us on stony paths, He provides us with Strong Shoes."
The name of this campaign is Jessica's Strong Shoes, because we are hoping to help be the strong shoes that she needs to get through this stony path.
On Sunday afternoon, Jessica and her partner Brian were enjoying a beautiful ride on their Harley--one of their favorite pastimes. At a busy intersection in Springfield, Missouri a pickup struck Brian and Jessica head-on. Jessica was thrown more than 15 feet from the actual accident, while Brian took the full-force of the impact. Medics on the scene and later at Cox South worked furiously on Brian and Jessica trying to stabilize them. Although the medical professionals involved gave it their all, we lost Brian 24 hours after the accident. His love for life, his stubbornness, and his larger than life personality make it even more difficult to believe that he is truly gone.
Jessica is still hospitalized and heavily sedated. As of now, Jessica is not even aware of Brian's passing, as her doctors feel it is in her best interest to wait until her remaining surgeries have been completed. We cannot even begin to imagine the sorrow she will feel upon discovering that Brian is gone.
On February 1st, she had major surgery to stabilize her pelvis and her elbow. The surgery was a success, however, she will be wheelchair bound for about 12 weeks while she heals. On February 2nd, she had surgery to set her jaw which was broken in three places. This process entails that her jaw remain wired shut for 6 weeks to facilitate healing. Her various other injuries are being monitored by her doctors and appropriate action will be taken as needed. The injuries she sustained, while not life-threatening will require extensive rehabilitation and for the forseeable future, will be very life-altering.
Although, the physical injuries are significantly daunting, the emotional devastation of losing the "love of her life" will without a doubt be Jessica's biggest challenge. Jessica, Ffiona, and Ulysses, along with Brian's family will need your prayers and support as they cope with the overwhelming loss of their beloved Brian.
While we cannot take the physical and emotional pain away, we can come together and make the upcoming weeks and months less stressful, by easing the financial burden that such an accident has attached to it--unexpected funeral expenses, moving costs, childcare, uncovered medical bills, lost wages, etc. These are all concerns that we can help alleviate.
