The Front Steps Project: Natick, MA
Donation protected
It feels like the world has stopped, doesn’t it?
Yet, I am very, very aware that I am here with my family and neighbors, friends and others during this unprecedented time, even if we aren’t really seeing each other these days!
As a photographer, I typically spend hours every week capturing images of families in times of joy: babies on the way, newborns, siblings, grandparents and more. Those moments of joy are still happening in homes right now. I know it and wish I could be there to capture them.
Like everyone (hopefully!), Massachusetts residents are doing their part to stay at home.
To document this strange time, I am offering five minute ‘Front Steps Portraits” to Natick residents. I will be using my zoom lens so I’ll be able to stay more than 10+ feet away from you. I’ll say hello from the street, give you a quick wave, and there won’t be any close interaction at all. I won’t physically interact with anyone or touch anything during these sessions. I *do* smile and laugh with you, however, and don’t we all need a little bit of that right now?
My original plan was to only offer these sessions on April 4th, but over 50 families have signed up so I need to expand the days that I’ll be offering these sessions! Once I receive your info, I’ll get back to ASAP to let you know what date and time you can expect me.
After your quick session, I’ll email you the digital files of your portrait. You can choose the three you like the most for a free download with print release. In exchange, I am asking you to support A Place to Turn - the total raised will be split with them to help them to continue to provide emergency food and clothing to your neighbors. You can find the GoFundMe page here for your donations. (Suggested donation $25-$50 but any amount is ok!)
I will be posting these images on Facebook and Instagram using the hashtag #thefrontstepsproject. Please share these posts once they’re up. Let’s spread some happiness!
To be clear: I will be taking images outside ONLY. Our session will be brief, likely just 5 minutes. This is not a typical get-dressed-up-and-pose-for-the-photographer session. Want to stand outside in your pajamas and slippers? Sounds good to me. Kids in mismatched clothes but you’re thrilled they got dressed? Fantastic. Wearing your bike gear because you’re headed off to ride a trail in the nice weather? Love it! Be you.
The purpose of this project is to bring us together when we might feel isolated. I aim to highlight the faces of our community during a time when we might not see them in passing at the grocery store, coffee shop, on the train or at the gym. Participating in this project is also an opportunity to step up to help a local Metrowest group with your donation.
I hope everyone is doing well and surviving. I can only imagine there might be a new normal after all of this…and my aim is to help bring back just a little bit of normalcy, while we’re going through it, in some way! Please let me know if you have any other ideas of ways to reach out to each other too!
