The Murray Family

Donation protected
The Murray family are hard working farmers who lost a lot in a Shed fire last night including tractors. Tom is currently in Madison in the burn unit with injuries and smoke inhalation. They are always willing to show support and help out anyone in need. Now it time for us to show them support and help them out.

** update** Thank you for all the texts and wishes for Tom Murray and family. For the local folks wanting to be updated, Tom is doing well. He was taken to the ER in Madison in the very early hours of the morning from Tomah Memorial and just recently moved into the burn unit late this morning. His lungs are clear and his was taken off oxygen. He has a few second degree burns and we left him the color of charcoal, with a hint of a strained smile on his face. Last I heard he was being given a bath and hopefully a good shave because the fire did a number to his beard...and eyebrows, etc. If all goes well, he will be home tonight and anybody that knows Tom, will assume that he will be back to milking his cows and delivering mail Monday morning, no matter. There's no stopping that man.

This very cold weather had Tom and the boys putting as much equipment as they could fit into one of their sheds. Tom's maintenance shop was a part of this shed and as it goes with farmers, he had tractors that were currently undergoing maintenance in the shop. Other equipment was squeezed into this same bay so, all in all, it was a very tight fit and space or not, cold or not, the maintenance still needed to be done. Long story short, there was an amount of fuel on the floor from the current round of tractor maintenance that couldn't be cleaned up in any timely manner and the fuel ignited around Tom. Tom was in a location close to the door so was able to get outside. Had he been deeper into the maze of equipment inside the shed, he may not have been so lucky.

Everything in the shop was destroyed. All of the equipment lost was the very equipment needed for the day to day operations of the farm. Tom fixes everything himself and all of his tools were also in the shop so the family is currently in a very difficult situation.

There was great response from the Kendall and Elroy Fire Departments etc. Thank you to you and all of the EMT's and ambulance personnel.

Lots of tears and major concerns turning into good hearted laughter and relief...Tom is ok and like all good farmers, this family will work their way through this chunk of never ending set backs that all farmers have to face.
