Financial Assistance for Our Family

Donation protected
Hi, my name's Ashley Brown, and I'm part of one fantastic family. My parents have supported me my entire life, and now it's time I return the favor.

In December 2013 my dad was diagnosed with Stage IV Squamous Cell lung cancer,  a complete shock to our family that honestly shook our world. Not only did he have a baseball-sized tumor on his lung, he had a tumor on his T3 vertebrae on his spine. In January that small spot broke his back, and he was rushed into emergency surgery in Grand Rapids to have two rods and 12 screws put in his back creating a ladder to support his entire spine.

After countless radiation treatments and chemotherapy sessions, highs and lows, ups and downs, the cancer was winning. I look back and can remember every month of this process and continued to pray for everything to get better. Cancer has affected millions of people, and I never thought my dad would be one of them.

At the beginning of June 2015, after fighting cancer for 18 months, having tumors on his lung, hip, femur, ribs, nose and four on his spine, it's a turning point in our familiy that we have to prepare to say goodbye to the rock that has held us all together. Spending time with him is the most important thing in our lives right now, especially when time is just a number and he could pass at anytime, which leads me to the reason why I created this page.

My mom works 55 hours a week having an at home daycare. With the condition my dad is in and making him as comfortable as we can, she took off this past week to care for him while I've been working full time to help contribute. With medical bills, utilities and prescriptions, the costs are starting to add up. With my student loans and medical bills, it's hard to financially support myself not to mention my family. My wish is for my mom to not have to worry financially each week and focus on spending as much time with my dad as he has left.

Any contribution, even just $5 would help tremendously with our family through this trying time, and knowing my mom has one less thing to worry about would be such a weight lifted off our shoulders.

To be clear, all donated money will go directly to financial assistance for my parents.

To all those families struggling with cancer and fighting it, I send prayers to you. Stay strong and keep fighting.

With tremendous gratitude,

Ashley Brown
