Unidos por Higüey, Republica Dominicana

Hello everyone! My name is Paloma Cedeno, I live in Houston,TX and I'm from the Dominican Republic where last Monday, September 19, 2022, Hurricane Fiona hit and devastated the east coast of the island specifically in Higüey causing thousands of houses to be destroyed because of high river floods leaving its residents with no place to stay, as well as no power, nor running water. This being said, my family was also affected by the Hurricane, their house was flooded and even though no lives were lost, their personal belongings were ruined.

At this moment, I want to use this platform to become one and help aid those in need. Starting today September 20, 2022, I will be collecting canned foods, clothes, personal hygiene and bedding specifically in the Houston and Katy area, here in Texas. All funds collected will not only help my family, but also be shared with all those who need it the most. I’m partnering up with Pequeño Milagros, a nonprofit organization on the island, who specializes in distributing funds and helping during these catastrophes.

Thank you all in advance for joining us in this journey. Anything you can donate is highly appreciated it, even if it’s just spreading the word. We will be posting updates and pictures in regard to the situation to keep you all posted.

¡Hola a todos! Mi nombre es Paloma Cedeno y soy dominicana, donde el pasado lunes 19 de septiembre del 2022 el huracán Fiona azotó y devastó la costa este de la isla, específicamente en Higüey causando que miles de casas fueran destruidas debido a las altas inundaciones del río dejando a sus residentes sin lugar para estancia, luz, ni agua corriente. Dicho esto, mi familia también fue afectada por el huracán, su casa se inundó y aunque no se perdieron vidas, sus pertenencias personales se arruinaron.

En este momento, quiero usar esta plataforma para convertirnos en uno y ayudar a los necesitados. A partir de hoy 20 de septiembre del 2022 estaré recibiendo alimentos enlatados, ropa, higiene personal y cubrecamas, específicamente en el área de Houston y Katy, aquí en Texas. Todos los fondos recaudados no solo ayudarán a mi familia, sino que también se compartirán con todos aquellos que más lo necesitan. Me estoy asociando con Pequeño Milagros, una organización sin fines de lucro en la isla, que se especializa en distribuir fondos y ayudar durante estas catástrofes.

Gracias a todos de antemano por acompañarnos en este viaje. Cualquier cosa que pueda donar es muy apreciada, incluso si solo es correr la voz. Publicaremos actualizaciones e imágenes con respecto a la situación para mantenerlos informados.
