Dad’s Funeral

I’m not one to ask for help, but this definitely caught me off guard. I’m still numb to the fact that my father will no longer be here physically. It saddens me dearly because he was everything to me. I aspired to be like him. I aspired to make him proud. I aspired to live up to all his expectations. I never expected this day to come. Action movies will never be the same. Visiting home will never be the same. Heck all that’s left are memories that fill me with happiness yet tear me apart to know i can’t talk to him about them. 23 years of my life he was sick. From stroke to stroke. From crutch to cane to walker to wheel chair and eventually bed bound. Paralysis of his esophagus which led him to a feeding tube. And he managed to recover thanks to my moms care. His will to live for my mom was immense. His kidney failure caused him to undergo dialysis treatments which lead him to lose 35 pounds. He was no longer the same. Slept most of the time. He still listened to my Navy stories. He still pointed at my picture to my mom. And although the was getting weaker we all had hope. He had hope. Eventually he caught a virus. Which caused an infection that doctors could not control at Urgent care (C Diff) He then threw up at 3am and inhaled his throw up causing Neumonía. The stressors caused a heart attack. A weakened heart and unable to breath on his own as water filled his lungs. He went on Life Support. It hurt to see him in that state. 3 tubes in his mouth to include a feeding tube. Dialysis cords in his neck. He was no longer him. The strong man who was there when others were in need. A great husband and the best father i could ask for. He no longer resisted the medications for the infections. Cdiff and pulmonary infections. Another heart attack and resuscitation would break his ribs. He knew he was ready to go. We were selfish for trying to keep him around. I apologized to him. I promised him I’d take care of mom. He’s resting now. Any little will go along way. Thank you.
