Hey there everyone my name is Shai Jones (they/she), I’m 24 I live in Brooklyn, NY and I need your help. I have thought long and hard about reaching out and asking for financial help as it can be seen as opportunistic but as a black person at this very moment in time I feel it’s fair to reach if people are willing and able to give. Currently I am feeling at my wits end living as a Black Queer Non-Binary person in NYC and experiencing a lot of trauma due to the times whether it be waking up in a country that is a white supremacist hellhole, relationship trauma as well as vicarious trauma I’ve been exposed to by the internet and struggling with mental illness (bi-polar 2) (undiagnosed ADHD) and just recently being terminated from my job after being furloughed it’s been really difficult to find the energy to ask for help when there is so much you need. Being black in USA in 2020 you feel you’re forced to overcome every form of adversity there is as well as try to assimilate balance as if this country was built for my balance anyways; I've started to feel really desolate and hopeless for a future I want to build but lack the resources, mental/physical capacity, overall bandwidth to come up with a plan.
I finally have that plan..as reparations have become more of a conversation and social action I take it upon myself to ask for what I deserve and need for my benefit and survival. This $8k is a chance at a new way of living for me. One that isn’t bent to another human’s will or needs before my own dreams and aspirations.
As some of you may know I have been slowly trying to free myself up to pursue my art/music career. While being isolated I’ve had a lot of forced revelations and a lot of reflecting and have found the thing that makes me feel alive and that’s graffiti and guitar and those are things I want to use to bring people together.
I have gone under the Alias FUCKWORK/Plush+ for the past year and have been working on my crafts to be able to use them to help other people tap into their potential they wouldn’t be able to due to the crushing weight of capitalism.
I want to lighten that load for myself a little so I can come back into the world with something to offer that’s bigger than myself and I see my dreams getting closer and closer to me every single day.
This financial goal is to get the ball rolling for me to move out of my small attic room and into a solo artist’s loft/space so I won’t be a disturbance to others/or be disturbed while I practice my art and build on what I already know about the mediums I’m diving into.
These finances will also help with:
-Covering the remainder of this year’s rent
-Security deposit/1st’s month in my new space
-Money for food and supplies
-Money for passport
-Traveling expenses
-Money for peace of mind
With your help and support you’d be helping me to have quite literally more room to grow and heal and I assure you the things I want to do with this money and recovery period will help me to change my life as well as others.
