Global Citizens Corps

For 6 years, Global Citizen Corps (GCC) has supported the homeless in the Boston Area. Our organization mainly operates on Fridays, from 6pm to 8pm, in the center of Harvard Square, visible on our website here: https://sites.google.com/view/lexingtongcc/home. As an organization with a strong foundation, we have not gotten sidetracked by many obstacles. Even in the freezing Boston winters, we continued to hand out food, drinks, and clothing for the homeless to survive. By our estimations, around $19,000 has been provided in resources over the years.

However, due to the unprecedented pandemic, the situation has completely changed. Homeless people are one of the most vulnerable population groups, as it is harder for them to get access to testing, and not having a stable home means the risk of becoming infected is significantly higher. Coupling that with disproportionately worse medical care because of the lack of an income, results in a dire situation for many individuals in the Harvard area.

To make matters worse, the virus has prevented us from operating at our full capacity, since assisting the homeless in-person gives rise to the risk of spreading the virus to both sides. Therefore, we are asking that you donate to GCC so we can create bags of resources for the homeless. These bags will contain virus prevention materials, such as a mask and hand sanitizer, as well as water, chips, and tampons for women. This strategy will minimize contact while maximizing the impact that GCC can have.
