Kiki

Kiki is our 14 year old fur baby  he has always been well and during the first lockdown Kiki stopped eating .We were so worried about him ,as he has always loved his food. We took him to the vet they said he was nauseous and seemed in pain when his tummy was pressed . He also lost some weight. They also did some bloods which did not show anything .They gave us antacid tablets and  also tablets for sickness. We fed him 2 hourly by hand for two weeks after which time he seemed better. About 4 weeks ago he got into into a fight with something (cat \fox ) and developed bite abscesses,  we took him to the vet again and he was put onto 1 weeks worth of antibiotics he had already lost a kilo of weight ,he did not look any better so with the follow up he was put on another 5 days of antibiotics . For the next follow up a urine sample and bloods were done which showed that he has hyperthyroidism -over active thyroid . The treatment for this is tablets or gel but is a temporary fix . They have very bad side effects and can only prolong his life by about a year or so as he can develop heart problems, kidney failure etc. The treatment he needs is radio iodine treatment which is very specialised and costs over £2200  he will need regular follow ups  to make sure he doesn’t have hypothyroidism- underactive thyroid. We have just changed our insurance and they will not cover anything as it was diagnosed in the 14 day  start up. We love him so much and his cat brother Dante . We need help with getting funds together for his treatment otherwise we will lose him sooner than we need to . We are both nurses and don’t have any extra funds for his treatment to spare although we would do anything for him including making debt.
