Help Pam Fight Breast Cancer

Donation protected
Early in the summer of 2018, our baby sister, Pam Hessert Eveleth, heard three words we all hope we’ll never hear - “you have cancer. “ In true Pam style, she gave herself a minute to feel all the feelings that come with a diagnosis of this magnitude and then promptly dug in her heels to fight the fight of her life - the fight for her life.

Pam’s been diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. Thankfully, it was caught relatively early, but it’s an aggressive cancer that calls for aggressive treatment. 5 months of chemotherapy followed by surgery and topped off with months of radiation. At this point, Pam is 6 weeks into chemo, with 3 treatments down and 13 to go. And at this point, the chemo is doing it’s job, but taking it’s toll. She is exhausted, she is queasy, her immune system is susceptible to infection and illness. And she fights on, in true Pam style. She doesn’t complain. She keeps the faith and fights the fight. She’s brave and strong and, in true Pam style, a little stubborn when it comes to asking for help.

Here’s a truth about our baby sister - she is the first person to jump in and help, whether you’re her family, friend or stranger on the street. She’s kind and caring and will give someone in need the shirt off her back, even if it’s her very last shirt. She’ll fight with you and she’ll fight for you; and trust us when we tell you - you would welcome her unique blend of tenacity, grit, and kindness in your corner. But one thing she’s not so good at is asking for help for herself. We were raised to be strong and proud and self-sufficient, so as her siblings, we get it. But as her siblings, we also know when to step in and ask for help for someone we love.

Cancer treatment is harsh. It’s brutal and exhausting and takes all of your focus and all of your energy. And unfortunately, a great deal of your money. Not only is the treatment expensive, even with some health insurance, but it takes away your ability to get up and go to work. Pam is self-employed, she takes care of other people and their homes. The work she does can be physically demanding and it can put her immune system in jeopardy. The doctors don’t want her to do it. How many of us would be worried about how we were going to make ends meet  without the  income from the jobs we do? How many of us would reach out to ask for help?

We know our sister - we know she is tough as nails, even when she’s scared. We know she’ll soldier on, fighting her battle while quietly worrying about the loss of her income. We want to help take that burden away from her and her amazing, loving and hard-working husband, Mike. We want to ease their struggle as much as we can - let them not worry about crippling medical expenses; but instead focus on supporting each other through Pam’s illness.

Many of you are already part of #TeamPJ. Many of you have stepped in with support and prayers and meals. And many have asked how you can help. Please consider a financial donation to #TeamPJ. All donations in any amount is greatly appreciated. We know stress and worry are not good for the body, so please help us to help Pam and Mike focus on healing by donating to Pam’s fight against breast cancer.

We thank you from deep in our hearts,
Bill, Elise and Sharon
