# HopeForBonnie
If you ever held a newborn, or got a second chance in life, or just a big warm hug from someone you love when all the world out there seems to be falling apart - then you know how much strength there is in family, love, community, and the power of shared humanity to make life worth living when all seems lost.
We're family friends fundraising for Bonnie who is absolutely winning the big fight against stage four brain cancer with the help of her tiny adorable granddaughter Ellie.
When Bonnie joyfully held newborn Ellie in the hospital in 2024, she had no idea in just a few weeks their lives would change forever. Glioblastoma brain cancer often shows up suddenly without warning with something like a sudden seizure and hospital scan, like in Bonnie's case. This type of brain cancer is aggressive and deadly, but with fast intense treatment it can and has been fully stopped.
Bonnie's mother keeps us updated on her progress and it has been harrowing touch-and-go for a year to tell you the truth; she says it's a fight for your life that takes everything out of you daily just to keep fighting another day and not give up.
Ellie had arrived just in time to give Bonnie the boost she needed to decide giving up is not an option. Good days or sad days, Ellie and Bonnie are inseparable. Being there for Ellie and seeing her grow up is Bonnie's reason to live.
Now a year into cancer treatment, the glioblastoma has been fully stopped in its tracks. Bonnie is young (50s) strong and doing well, her condition is stable and brain scans are looking very good according to doctors. The intense treatments have worked, however, that victory came at high cost to her bones: a year of chemotherapy, radiation and steroids deplete the bones, so Bonnie has been in a wheelchair, bald from chemo of course, and with a broken hip that just had to be replaced. She is now recovering from that successful surgery and remains in good spirits as long as there's pain medication, taking things one day at a time.
This is a small family of good, hardworking people known for helping others. They have given it their all in this unfair battle, working extra delivery jobs and making ends meet, asking for nothing but prayers for a way to cover deductible medical bills not covered by health insurance.
It's exactly because they are a working class family with health insurance through work that they have these extra medical expenses that are not covered. It is a national paradox and problem in America that self-sufficient, hard working young middle class families can face financial ruin from a sudden diagnosis of a serious illness precisely because they work for a living instead of living off government systems.
Cancer can pick a fight with anyone at any time, so this same predicament can happen to anyone and we all need to step in and help each other when it does.
If 3000 people care enough to donate $5, passing up just one cup of coffee to help this family - together we can get them the funds they need to pay the crushing past due medical bills.
This is our request:
1.) Please donate any amount like $5. GoFundMe is a safe, reputable and secure platform. All transactions are only between you and GoFundMe, and your privacy is protected by GoFundMe.
2.) Please share #HopeForBonnie on your social media with an encouraging message for Bonnie about a time you almost gave up but didn't.
We are collecting messages of hope for Bonnie from the community for strength and motivation to keep going, so she knows that people care and she's not alone.
Thank you.
