My name is Lisa and I want to go to nursing school. I have a very large and supportive family, but not much money. In the picture, I'm the one in the brown coat, resting my hands on one of my grandsons.
I've been given a seat at Lansing Community College, an accredited and well respected ADN program, and I'm in the accellerated/2nd degree cohort.
Cost of my first semester is:
$ 785 -- tuition
$2000 -- course fees
$ 450 -- online supplementals (Kaplan)
$ 75 -- Nursing course supplement package
$ 300 -- lab supplies
$ 100 -- clinical placement fee
$ 75 -- fingerprinting
$1500 -- textbooks (new -- plan to get used)
$ 400 -- scrubs, shoes, stethescope, etc.
----------
$5685
Because nursing students aren't informed of their placement until a few months before classes start, I wasn't able to apply for scholarships. I *will* be eligible for scholarships for my following semesters.
The financial aide officer has told me that I'm eligible for assistance with my tuition, but the rest is up in the air for this semester. *Next* semester should be ok, and overall less expensive because I'll have most of the books and all of the supplies I'll need.
It's just paying for this semester that's a problem for me. I'll buy older additon books, and because I'll be getting assistance and I've been able to save some money, I don't need a lot -- I figure I'm about $2500 short.
