Help With Debts

I graduated from Virginia Tech in May 2005, but I wasn’t able to find a full-time job until April 2010. During the years in which I was only working part-time, I had to rely on three credit cards for a lot of my expenses. Even after finding a full-time job, I still ended up having to use credit to pay for a series of expensive car repairs, even after taking out a bank loan to pay off part of the debt.

I also admit that it also took me a long time to learn how to manage my money, and that some poor spending choices over the years only exacerbated the situation.

Right now, everything seems to have reached the breaking point. All three credit cards are maxed out, I’m behind on payments on the bank loan, and I’m struggling to pay the credit card minimum payments along with rent, particularly after the interest rate went up on one of the cards. The totals of all of the monthly minimum payments come out to around $950 per month.

I set $4800 as the fundraiser amount since that's the amount of a year's rent on my apartment. I chose that amount after realizing that if I could reallocate the part of my income that would normally go towards rent, then maybe I could catch up on my debt payments. I had already signed a lease on my apartment back in the winter, so leaving it isn't an option, although I will be living with relatives for a while after the current lease expires in July 2018, to save money on rent.

I worry that this will sound like a shameless cash grab, but I promise that it isn't, and that I don't take this lightly, or see it as a way to avoid responsibility. Far from being shameless, I feel deeply ashamed of having failed to achieve financial stability, twelve years after graduating from college.  I've taken a Dave Ramsey financial planning class through a local church, and I think that I'm in a better .

I also realize that this is hardly a long-term solution, but my goal in the short-term is to stave off the need to file for bankruptcy.

If you have something to offer other than money, like prayers, or a connection for a possible job, I would love those as well!  At this point, I would appreciate any help that anyone can offer.  I'm not expecting anyone to singlehandedly fund this campaign, by the way; even just a $10 or $20 donation would be helpful at this point.

If there's anything that I can do for you, anything with which I can help, I'll be more than happy to do so.  I had thought that I could also provide some small token of my appreciation, perhaps a photo of Blacksburg in summer, or of the VT campus, or of the Roanoke cityscape.  Just let me know, and I'll be more than happy to oblige!
