Please Help Me Help Myself

This past spring my boyfriend Mark had two strokes. He has Wernickes Aphasia. The short version of his ongoing medical issues means that he can no longer work his tile laying trade. He has very limited verbal ability and even less understanding of language. You cannot tell anything is wrong from looking at him but his verbal skills forever gone. This is permanent. So, we find ourselves in a new world and sometimes, it's lonely and dark. My Facebook connection has been a lifesaver and a link to the outside world.

We are getting close to having SS make a decision. I took Mark on October 12th to have a neurologist checkup. The doctor who reviewed Mark’s case needs that report and then he will sign off and his case will go back to the field office for determination. Hopefully, that won't take too long.

He is approved for housing in Ada and on the wait list. They are not taking apps for Oklahoma Housing Finance Authority, but we can transfer after a year. I haven't applied to Oklahoma City Housing Authority yet. I will soon. The wait list is long. For now, we are staying in one room of Mark’s sisters’ home. It is not an ideal situation, but we are trying to make it work. I need a newer (used) car and a 5th-wheel mobile home, so we have our own space in which to live, since the list is so long for housing.

Our monthly needs are paying our Phone bill; Insurance; Mark’s prescription medication; gas money and incidentals like toiletries and things not covered by EBT.

I understand I can't keep soliciting money from my friends. I am trying to help myself by coming up with a way to make money, but my current living arrangement is 30 miles outside Ada, a small town in Oklahoma. We have no money for gas and  the van we have now has many issues and makes it virtually impossible to drive. Also Mark must have 24 hour care and I am his only caretaker.  

In addition to Mark's many needs I am having some medical issues as well. I was able to get a 90% charity through the Mercy system but unless I can come up with 10% I won't be able to see the surgeon my doctor has referred me to on the 31st of October. I also have to see an orthopedic Dr. in November.

I really don’t know what else to do to help myself. I realize everybody could use help and there are many folks in worse shape than I. I simply don't know what else to do. If anyone has a suggestion I am all ears.
