Help raise funds to 3D print lifesaving ventilation adaptors for COVID-19 patients and face shields for NHS staff.
At Fab Lab* Warrington, the community based hi-tech manufacturing facility, we have put our 3D printers to good use, printing adaptors which turn a snorkelling mask into a breathing aid for COVID-19 patients and face shields to protect our frontline NHS workers
The snorkelling mask adaptor was devised by a team in Italy, where it saved many lives. Fab Lab Warrington has this week printed and distributed 100 of these adaptors to complement Subea snorkelling masks which have been donated by Decathlon.
Our adaptors are right now being used very successfully to aid the breathing of COVID-19 patients in Greater Manchester ICU’s. These NHS trusts have requested we print hundreds more to help their patients as the cases of COVID-19 sadly increase.

The second piece of equipment we are manufacturing is a simple face shield for NHS workers. Healthcare workers across the country are putting themselves and patients at significant risk of the COVID-19 infection because of the lack of protective equipment (commonly referred to as PPE). If this continues, the NHS will become dangerously under-staffed. Infected healthcare workers will be forced into self-isolation to protect the public. Lots of hospitals and trusts are reporting huge increases in their consumption of PPE. Many will run out soon.
The team at Fablab have designed this face shield which can be sterilised and reused by staff working on the frontline. We have already distributed face shields to GP surgeries and district nurses who have no PPE and already have requests for hundreds more of these face shields from trusts across Greater Manchester. We need to help healthcare professionals keep doing their job throughout this crisis.
Both innovations have saved lives in Italy and will save lives here in the UK. But to really ramp up our production of these adaptors and face shields, we need your help and your donations of money or 3D printing resources.
