Fighting Brain Cancer Together Dad.

Dear Friends & Family,

Today I decided to create a go fund me page for my father and best friend. At this very moment, I'm watching him lay in a hospital bed very anxious and excited that he lives another day. On September 2015 it was a normal day at work when my mother called me & said " I need to tell you something about your father but I want you to remain calm" I immediately panicked and replied " I'm calm, please tell me" she replied " Your father was found with a brain tumor and requires surgery tomorrow". At that moment I panicked and broke into tears. The following day I was holding my fathers hand before he went into the surgery room comforting him "don't worry dad I'll see you soon I said, while holding back my tears. I had to stay strong for him at the time. After 4 hours, the surgeon said family of Mr. Ocampo, I immediately ran towards him and said "Yes Doctor" (Gasping for air with my heart pounding waiting to hear the outcome) "your fathers surgery was a success but we must check to see if the tumor we have removed is cancerous". As the recovery days passed by we received a visit from the doctor, It was the news we never expected or wanted to ever hear "I'm sorry to inform you but the tumor we have removed is a cancer malignant brain tumor". I immediately looked at my father and said it's okay dad I am here with you and we will fight this together, I'll always have your back. Since that day my father has had Chemotherapy, radiation therapy, countless hospital visits, insurance denying treatment, prolong doctor appointments, delayed treatment, pain,  and the list goes on. One year later his tumor started to grow once again at a rapid pace and he needed a second surgery. Again we were back in the same place. Surgery was scheduled and the outcome was a great success. The beginning of December 2017 my father started getting headaches once again. After his catscan, it was determine his tumor was growing aggressively. Within two weeks he lost motion in his left hand and left foot, his left eyelid begin to drop and his memory became to fail. His doctor scheduled a surgery after Christmas but we couldn't wait that long and made the call to bring him into the emergency room on Sunday December 17th.  After tests and scans they found my fathers brain very swollen and needed immediate treatmeant to reduce inflammation. After inflammation was reduced they scheduled his surgery for Friday December 22nd 2017. It was 6am Friday morning day of his surgery. The doctor pulled me to the side and said "Jay - this is the 3rd surgery we have to perform on your father. His cancer is very aggressive and the tumor has started to affect his physical movements and memory. I have to be sincere, this 3rd surgery will be very difficult since the tumor is more profound then the previous tumors. He continued, "Someone with his sickness usually lives for 6 months to 1 year and he has lived for over 2 years." I felt confused with this explanation, as if this might be the last time I would see my father again. I held my tears at the moment and asked him if I could see my father one more time. Kindly he pushed my fathers bed back outside and told me I had 5 minutes. I looked at my father in the eyes and smiled and said "Dad I love you, and I'm always going to be by your side no matter what I'll see you in a bit". I gave him a kiss on the forehead and a hug that I wished lasted forever. I walked out, gasping for air feeling a pain no one can heal. I was afraid that was the very last time I would see my father, the man who cheered for me when I scored goals during my soccer games and the man who held my hand as we crossed the street when I was just a kid. Regardless what the doctor said deep down inside I knew my father was strong & I had a lot of faith he was going to make it through this surgery. He already survived twice why not a third I said to myself.  I walked back to his room where they would make a phone call and give me updates. Phone started to ring, again I felt breathless with my heart racing at about 100 beats per second. Picked up the phone "hello" they replied "Family of Mr. Ocampo" "Yes" I said "Your fathers surgery went well, but we still have to wait and see how he awakes. To be honest I was very nervous to see my father, I was afraid he wouldn't recognize me. I walked into the room where they had monitors all over the place. He opened his eyes and stared at me, I stared back and waited for his reaction. His first word was "Son" & wow that was one of the best moments of my life. My father was conscious and aware. What better gift right before Christmas, my father is alive !  We celebrated Christmas together inside his hospital room.  So here I am currently watching my father sleep while I share this story with you. With faith, hope & love and the impossible becomes possible. Thank you for taking your time to read our story. Any donation big or small will mean the world to us. This fundation will only be for my fathers medical, future medical, homecare, and medicine expenses. Any funds we don't use will be donated to a cancer foundation of my fathers choice.  If you aren't not able to donate at this time that is okay, you can contribute by sharing our story on facebook, instagram and any other social media. We also accept prayers and positive messages. By doing that alone it, would mean a lot to me and my family. Thank you once again for being part of my family in helping my father fight cancer. God bless you all !

Thank You Sincerely,
- Jay Ocampo
