GoodKidsMadCity (GKMC) is a youth movement/organization that was formed in the wake of the Parkland tragedy. We saw a voice not only need to be lifted in Parkland but in our own city as well. We work to tell a new narrative from "troubled youth" or "at-risk youth", to a narrative that is true to us. Our truth is that the youth in the city of Chicago and cities across the country are really good, but there are systems in place meant to oppress and criminalize us.
GKMC key focus areas are - Youth employment. - Creating trauma-informed communities and spaces. - Creating safe spaces for young people to heal from violence in the community. - Educating communities on the lack of resources and to unteach the normalization of everyday traumas.
Through these efforts, we hope to continue to equip this generation of youth with the resources and opportunities necessary for them to learn, adapt and grow while understanding the power their story holds and empower them to cultivate change in their lives and community.
We are pushing to raise $100,000 not only to continue the work we do effectively, but to expand our reach to other communities and youth. We will be committing ourselves to services that include: - Funding youth spaces (e.g healing spaces) - Activities in urban communities. (e.g youth summits, block events) - Providing resources for first response training. - Creating a rapid response emergency fund available at hand for youth employment needs, transportation solutions and grievance assistance for families in need.
Our ultimate goal is to have funds available for the everyday struggles young people in our community deal with day to day whether being a space, a job or even a meal. We appreciate everyone who is willing to invest in our young people, our communities and our vision.
