Mending Kelly's Heart

Donation protected
First of all, thank you all for the outpouring of love and support you have shown my family during this time. I know I have not been able to keep in contact with most of you but please know your thoughts, prayers and well wishes do not go unnoticed and I love you all very much! Some of you know what has been going on but for those of you who do not-

My mom, Kelly Bowers
has had a pacemaker since she was 27.  On July 2nd, she went in to her cardiologist to have the battery changed which is a routine procedure. Two weeks ago, she was hospitalized because of an infection from the 33 year old leads, and was told that they would need to be replaced. While a more in depth procedure then she was used to, it was nothing that hasn't been done before.  What is not common are the series of events that followed this routine procedure. What happened next was so unexpected and life altering I am still struggling to understand. There was a complication when they went in to go clean out the infected leads and a piece of debris from the infected leads perforated her heart and she went into cardiac arrest. She lost 70% of the blood in her body, her heart was damaged, she was placed in a medical coma and put on life support. She has accumulated A LOT of fluid that is at times prevents her blood from being oxygenated the right way, causing her blood pressure to drop.   Due to the severity of the situation, we are still unaware of her brain functioning at this point and cannot proceed with a neurological exam until she is stable. The doctors are giving her a 50/50 chance pulling through and some days look better than others but we can't leave her side, I need to be here to help encourage her to keep fighting for her life.

She is the BEST mother we could ever ask for. She is so selfless and full of love and gives everything she has. My brothers, Patrick, Hughie, Michael and I have been by her side, along with her husband, Steve, Sister- Robin and friends.
It is hard for me to ask for help but at this point I know that we need to at least put it out there because we are struggling. My mom just started a new job a week ago so she does not have benefits so we are expecting large hospital bills. We are currently trying to manage two households- one in PA and one in NC.  Short term we just need some help covering basic expenses and bills for both households so that we can continue to be here for her, because we can't go home without her. Thank you to anyone who is able to help, I can't begin to express how grateful I am for all of the love and support, it is helping us to keep going and hold onto hope. Strength truly comes in numbers, recovery is a process and we are in a marathon.
