Doug Hart's Stroke Return

Donation protected
This is our wonderful dad, Douglas Hart, he is an amazing man of God. He’s a husband, father, and grandfather. He is known for his love of Jesus Christ and sharing the gospel with thousands of people. He is a lover of music, especially Nat King Cole, whose voice he has impersonated for decades. He’s taken his gift of singing to the elderly in assisted living facilities and nursing homes and completely made their day with his gift of singing oldie songs. Unfortunately he suffered a second stroke on Thursday morning, February 4th, 2016. Our dad has battled hypertension for a large part of his life. In February 2010 he experienced his first stroke at the age of 55. He spent two weeks in the hospital, endured seizures, many ups and downs and little hope from the doctors that he would be able to function normally again. Through much prayer, hope, and love he made a complete and full recovery, walking, talking, driving, and able to work full-time again, all of which the doctors said might never happen for him. Our whole family was incredibly grateful that our dad experienced this miracle of being fully restored within 3 months of his stroke and nobody was even able to tell he experienced such a major injury. A real difficult time followed this miracle when the medical bills from the hospital stay and procedures came in. After much prayer and patience, our parents were able to settle an agreement with the hospital and through generous givers, pay off his first round of medical bills, it was such a blessing they will never forget.

On the morning of February 4th, 2016 our mom Lynn, asked our dad if he could get ready for work that morning, he immediately told her that he couldn’t get up because he had a severe head ache and was extremely dizzy. This concerned my mom greatly as she’ll always be reminded of his previous stroke and it was unlike him to not be able to get up, she thought he could be sick and told him she would take the morning off to take him to the doctors. When our mom was ready to go she told him it was time to get up but he simply could not, she called me so worried that he was unable to get up, finally he was able to get up but only for a short period of time where he proceeded to throw up, at this point I told my mother to call 911 and that it was better to take this serious than be too late. The paramedics arrived within 7 minutes to get him to the local hospital. After several tests, it had confirmed the worst, our dad had experienced a second stroke. Our dad was then airlifted to the nearest hospital that was equipped to deal with strokes and had a neurology department, once he arrived he was assessed further through CT scans and constantly checking vitals. It was discovered our dad suffered a serious stroke in a very dangerous part of the brain toward the back, near the brain stem, doctors biggest concern was damage to the brain stem which could be lethal. Through much discussion the doctors decided that surgery to remove the hematoma in the back of our dad’s brain was the best form of treatment. Our dad was taken back for surgery around 4:00pm on February 4th. The surgery was successful, they made an incision at the side of his skull and removed a hematoma and reduced swelling in his brain, and they put a drain in place at the top of his head. We were ecstatic that the surgery went well but the next 72 hours were critical.

We have been by my father’s side since this all happened and while trying to heal and build his strength he has endured a setback, he has developed pneumonia following his surgery. Our dad is a fighter and we truly believe that our Lord and Savior is going to heal him, we know he has more work for him to do here on earth but our dad is currently very weak from everything, the stroke, surgery, and now pneumonia. This setback is going to increase his time in the ICU as well as increase his overall hospital stay. Through all this we can only imagine the tremendous financial burden that will hit our parents once again, though so many more procedures occurred this time around so we fear the financial blow will be even greater than last time. We are praying for anyone that feels led to help donate to lighten the medical bills our parents will receive from this tragedy. Your prayers are appreciated the most first and foremost but if you feel led to help and have been blessed financially to be able to help we would be incredibly grateful for your support. Thank you all so much for your love and support, God Bless!
