Exposure to the Arts - At-Risk Kids

Grace Center for the Performing Arts (GCPA) is asking you to join us in funding Exposure to the Arts for 200 at-risk youth, to see the theatrical production of Gospel According to Soul. The sponsored youth will come from programs administered by these organizations:
· Heal the Hood Foundation of Memphis, LaDell Beamon, Founder & CEO
· The Husband Institute, Pursuit of God, Frayser, Pastor Ricky Floyd
· Bloomfield Full Gospel Baptist Church, South Memphis, Reverend Ralph White
· Grace Center for the Performing Arts, Whitehaven, Dwayne Hunt, director
At-risk children are less likely to be introduced to the arts, thereby missing out on the advantages the arts can provide. However, when they are exposed to the arts, the benefits can be dramatic! The arts contribute to increased self-esteem, the development of much needed creative thinking, problem solving and communications skills, the acquisition of job skills, and lower recidivism rates.
Your funding enables us to expose this under-served population to our flagship production: Gospel According to Soul. You’ve heard the story of Jesus – it’s called the “Gospel.” But you have never, ever heard the “Gospel” like this… told to the stirring sound of Soul music. The music is called ‘soul’ because the lyrics testify the echoes of the heart, and the rhythms are felt at the core of one’s very own soul. Only one other sound can touch us deeper and move us more... that’s the Gospel. The audience is blown away as these two forces – the Gospel and Soul music – combine for a powerful evening of theatre, full of emotion and laughter, unforgettable music, and exhilarating dance.
$15 funds one ticket, and we need to raise $3000 to send 200 youth to this event. We invite you to join GCPA, Heal the Hood Foundation of Memphis, The Husband Institute and Bloomfield Full Gospel Baptist Church in enhancing the lives of at-risk youth by exposing them to the arts.
